Hook ’em Horns. At least according to Polymarket traders.
Three weeks into the 2026 season, traders on Polymarket’s College Football Champion contract have moved the Texas Longhorns to the front of the national title board. As of late September 22, Texas sat at 15% implied odds, just ahead of Georgia and Miami at 14% each, On3 reported. Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Indiana remained at or above 10%, but the Irish no longer shared the early co-favorite role they held before kickoff.

Texas is 3-0 and No. 1 in the AP poll after a 24-23 comeback over then-No. 1 Ohio State and two rather routine non-conference wins. Notre Dame is also 3-0, yet its results against Wisconsin, Rice, and Michigan State have not carried the same weight. As a result, title probability has shifted toward the Longhorns and two other unbeaten teams heading into a Week 4 college football slate packed with ranked matchups.
Why Texas Now Sits at 15%
The pricing hinge is the Ohio State game. Texas trailed the top-ranked Buckeyes 23-3 before scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Hollywood Smothers scored with 25 seconds left; the extra point made it 24-23, and Ohio State’s final heave was intercepted. A highly impactful signature win against an elite program also expected to contend for a title this season.
That single result gave Texas both the season’s best win and a cleaner playoff résumé than any other 3-0 team on the board.
The remaining SEC schedule still includes Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida, and Ole Miss, so the 15% price is likely to shift based on the outcome of those top matchups. It does, however, explain why this contract has already moved faster than many sportsbook futures boards, where Ohio State often remains near +520 to +550.
Notre Dame Stays Dangerous but Slides in the Order
Notre Dame is not fading as a contender. The Irish still sit in the double-digit band behind sophomore quarterback CJ Carr and a defense that has controlled early opponents. The slide is relative: preseason pricing often put them near 12% or 13%, and that share has compressed as Texas, Georgia, and Miami absorbed more of the title probability.
Ohio State’s implied chance also tightened after the loss, even though several books have been slower to knock the Buckeyes off the top of their futures lists. Indiana still holds a meaningful slice. The top six teams still command most of the priced-in championship equity, which is normal in September, but the order inside that group has already changed. Still, your national champion remains likely to come from this Top 6 list.
Week 4 offers Notre Dame a heavy-favorite spot against Purdue and their rather underwhelming-looking defense. A clean win will keep the Irish in the conversation. It will not, by itself, restore them to the outright lead unless Texas or another 14%–15% team stumbles.

Georgia, Miami, and the Rest of the Field
Georgia and Miami at 14% each is the other early-season signal. The Bulldogs have not been stretched yet, which usually keeps title prices firm until league play arrives. The SEC conference schedule is the undeniable test. Miami’s share tracks with a roster that recruiting evaluators ranked among the most talented in the country before the season.
Oregon, Texas Tech, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss occupy the next tier, mostly in the mid-single digits. Those prices will move fastest once the first true conference tests land. One loss by a current 14% or 15% team can reallocate several points in a single session.
The 12-team playoff still leaves room for clubs priced at 6% or 7%. Some of these teams will ultimately be in the postseason tournament, with a weekly chance to advance. Traditional sports betting boards still lean toward Ohio State as the nominal favorite; meanwhile, Polymarket has already assigned more weight to the team that owns the head-to-head win.
Week 4 can quickly reset the board. Six ranked-versus-ranked games sit on the coming slate, including Texas at Tennessee. Each game result (or even before it’s concluded) instantly feeds this national-title market. Prediction markets don’t wait on a poll or Monday morning committee reveal.
For now, the market has a leader. Texas owns the best win, the top poll spot, and the highest implied probability. Notre Dame remains a serious threat, yet the Irish have slipped in the one ordering that matters to anyone trading the title outright.
